I was painting at a school in East Palo Alto and was just finished with the background color when the principal shared a moving story with me. One of her kindergartners, a little girl named Emma, had severe arthritis and struggled every day to get ready for school after taking heavy medication. However in the last few days, she had asked her parents to drop her off earlier every morning because she was looking forward to seeing the progress that had been made on the mural.
Thanks for the murals you did at our school because we have more friends and without the murals we wouldn't have a lot of friends.
Your mural is so special because all the kids are holding hands and like one another.
Your mural is a very special gift to our school and to all the people who work in our school. I hope that you paint murals at other schools too.
Thank you for painting our wall, for I found that I could be cute and not white.
Another thing I thank you is because the way you did the kids were awesome and the kids were big and small and fat and skinny.
